
EXPANSION OF BASIC CARE BED CAPACITY
June 14, 2013
An entity may add basic care beds if it can demonstrate either that basic care services are not readily available within a designated area of the state or that existing basic care beds within a 50 mile radius have been occupied at 90% or more for the previous 12 months. The entity is not required to meet both of those standards.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF CHANGES TO DUI LAWS

Changes to strengthen the state’s DUI laws will take effect on July 1, 2013, because two sections of House Bill 1302 provide an appropriation to support DUI programs administered by state agencies.

SCHOOL BOARD HELD IMPROPER EXECUTIVE SESSION

The Turtle Lake-Mercer School Board violated the open meetings laws when it held an executive session to discuss the results of a background check of two potential hires because the Board failed to follow the proper procedure to close the meeting and because it also discussed general personnel matters during the closed session.
