Purchasing a Weapon
- Individuals who want to purchase any modern firearm in the State of North Dakota are checked through the National Instant Check System (NICS).
- The NICS check is completed during the concealed weapon permit application process and the NICS number is printed on the permit when issued to a North Dakota resident.
- Because the NICS check has been conducted during the application process, the requirement for a NICS check for a firearm purchase may be waived, at the discretion of the weapon dealer, for North Dakota residents with a valid concealed weapon permit.
- Non-residents may not use the North Dakota concealed weapon permit for the purchase of firearms.
